Intentionality: 2024 Word of the Year

✨Intentionality✨
I think this may just be my word of the year!

I don’t think I have ever done a Word of the Year before, but I know I have done a Word of the Month a few times. As I went through the different areas of my life, setting and writing my goals for them, “Intentionality” kept popping up.

A few things I had written down were:
My time
My health
My purchases
My relationships
My work
My blog space
My rest

So, those all turned into:
Be more intentional with my time
Be more intentional with my health
Be more intentional with my purchases
Be more intentional with my relationships
Be more intentional with my work
Be more intentional with my blog space
Be more intentional with my rest

I love going over what defines a word, so here we go!
Intentionality: the fact of being deliberate or purposive.
Intentional: done on purpose, deliberate
Intention: a thing intended; an aim or plan

I like that the definition of intentionality says “the fact of being.” We all know what intentions are but not sure if everyone pays attention to them before doing something. I aim to be more intentional in all the areas I have listed above and in others I did not list.

To me, it’s about showing up, thinking more about, and being more involved, focused, and present. Set the goals, focus on them, and achieve them!

One last thing worth mentioning is to be intentional with your thoughts! I’ve discussed this before, but taking every thought captive is essential. Let’s stop letting the negativity grow. Let’s not even let it go past our lips. If a thought enters your mind that you know isn’t helpful or good, be present enough to say, “Nope, that’s not good! We aren’t going to think that way.” Become intentional with anything that crosses your mind and with the words you speak.

Let’s make this year the year of growth in all areas of life!

Intentionality fits into so many areas of my life that I’ve set little goals in that it may just be my theme for the year. 💛 Hope your 2024 is off to a great start!

Do you have a Word of the Year? Have you ever done a Word of the Year? Let me know in the comments 😄

Sincerely, Emily
